Product Introduction

In the steel smelting industry, ferrochrome serves as a core alloying additive. It significantly enhances the performance characteristics of steel, making ordinary steel harder, more corrosion-resistant, and more durable. As such, it is widely used in the production and processing of various steel grades.

Ferrochrome typically contains 55% to 75% chromium. It is precisely this core component that enables it to play a crucial role in improving steel properties.

Core Features

Main Applications

High-Carbon Ferrochrome

4%~10% (including furnace grade)

Mature smelting process, large output, low cost, stable supply

Used for manufacturing ball bearing steel, tool steel, die steel, as well as ordinary stainless steel (such as 200 series, 300 series). It can also serve as a chromium additive for alloy iron.

Medium-Carbon Ferrochrome

0.5%~4%

Controllable carbon content, balanced performance, combining strength and toughness

Producing medium-low carbon structural steel and carburizing steel. It is used to manufacture parts for automobiles and construction machinery, such as gears, high-pressure fan blades, and valve plates.

Low-Carbon Ferrochrome

0.15%~0.5%

Strong corrosion resistance, reduced carbide precipitation, and stable performance

Producing medium-low carbon stainless steel and acid-resistant steel to meet steel production requirements with certain corrosion resistance.

Ultra-Low-Carbon Ferrochrome

≤0.15% (including super ultra-low carbon)

High smelting difficulty, high power consumption, high cost, and high purity

Producing high-end stainless steel, heat-resistant steel, electrothermal alloys, as well as corrosion-resistant steel for marine engineering and chemical equipment.

Core Functions

- Deoxidation and Desulfurization: Oxygen and sulfur in molten steel cause defects like porosity and cracks. Chromium combines with oxygen and sulfur to effectively remove these impurities, significantly enhancing steel purity. Our research shows that adding 0.5%-1.2% high-carbon chromium iron reduces molten steel oxygen content by over 60%.

- Alloy Strengthening: Chromium refines the grain structure of steel and forms chromium carbides with carbon, substantially enhancing hardness and wear resistance. For instance, adding 2%-5% chromium to tool steel increases its Rockwell hardness by 15%-20%. Incorporating appropriate chromium into bearing steel extends fatigue life by 30%.

- Corrosion Resistance: Chromium forms a dense oxide film on steel surfaces, blocking oxygen and moisture penetration to prevent rust and corrosion. Stainless steel's corrosion resistance fundamentally relies on achieving the required chromium content, with ferrochromium serving as the key raw material for meeting this standard.

- Hardenability: Chromium lowers the critical cooling rate of steel, increasing its hardenability depth. This results in more uniform and stable properties after quenching. For instance, in automotive gear production, adding an appropriate amount of chromium iron significantly increases the hardened layer depth, extending gear service life.
