Product Introduction

Medium carbon ferro chrome is a chromium-iron alloy with carbon content between high-carbon and low-carbon ferro chrome, balancing alloy quality and cost. It serves as a commonly used intermediate-grade alloy material in the production of high-end alloy steels and stainless steels.

Composition

Carbon Approximately 2%–4%
Chromium Approximately 50%–70%
Remainder Primarily iron and minor impurities

Primary Functions

1. Precise Carbon Content Control: Ensures consistent chromium levels while strictly regulating carbon content in steel to prevent excessive carbon from compromising material properties.

2. Enhanced Performance: Significantly improves corrosion resistance, hardness, wear resistance, and high-temperature strength.

3. Improved Microstructure: Reduces segregation, enhances toughness and machinability, making it suitable for steel grades with specific carbon content requirements.

Primary Applications - Steel

1. Stainless Steel Production (Largest Application)

300 Series Austenitic Stainless Steel (304, 316, etc.): Precisely controlled carbon content to prevent intergranular corrosion.

400 Series Martensitic Stainless Steel (410, 420, 430, etc.): Provides chromium and moderate carbon for balanced hardness, strength, and corrosion resistance. Primarily used in cutlery, knives, valves, and shafts.

2. Alloy Structural Steel

Medium- and low-carbon chromium steel, chromium-manganese-silicon steel: Manufacture gears, gear shafts, crankshafts, connecting rods, high-pressure fan blades, valve plates, bolts, etc.

Quenched and tempered steel: Such as 40Cr, 42CrMo. Medium-carbon chromium iron provides chromium, achieving high strength and good toughness through heat treatment.

3. Alloy Tool Steel and Die Steel

Cold work die steel (Cr12MoV, Cr5Mo1V, etc.): Used for cold punching dies, gauges, and rollers.

Hot work die steel (H13, 4Cr5MoSiV1, etc.): Used for die-casting molds and hot forging dies.

High-speed tool steel (W6Mo5Cr4V2, etc.): Provides chromium to enhance wear resistance.

4. Heat-Resistant Steel

Heat-resistant steel (e.g., 12Cr1MoV, Cr9Mo): Used for boiler tubes, turbine blades, engine exhaust valves, improving high-temperature oxidation resistance and creep resistance.

5. Wear-Resistant Steel and Special-Purpose Steel

Wear-resistant steel: Used in wear-resistant liners, hammer heads, and track plates to enhance hardness and wear resistance.

Bearing steel: Supports production of low-to-medium carbon bearing steel, balancing hardness and toughness.
