Silicon-barium-calcium alloy is a highly efficient new composite alloy among barium-based alloys. It serves as a deoxidizer, desulfurizer, and dephosphorizer in steelmaking; it also acts as an inoculant and modifier in casting.

Barium effectively reduces the vapor pressure of calcium within the steelmaking temperature range, increasing the solubility of calcium in molten steel. Compared to silicon-calcium alloy, when silicon-barium-calcium alloy is added to molten steel at half the amount of calcium, the calcium content in the molten steel is approximately twice that of silicon-calcium alloy, and the calcium concentration in the molten steel is significantly increased. Silicon-barium-calcium alloy can enhance the fluidity of molten steel, solve the problem of nozzle clogging in continuous casting, improve the recovery rate of silicon and manganese, and reduce carbon powder consumption. It can replace traditional deoxidizers such as aluminum wire and silicon-calcium wire. It is particularly suitable for producing low-sulfur, low-phosphorus steel and special steels. In casting, its main applications include ductile iron and gray cast iron.
