Core-spun thread has a dual definition across different industries: In the textile industry, it refers to a special yarn made by twisting a core yarn and a wrapping yarn together, its appearance resembling boucle thread, primarily used for weaving fancy fabrics; another form is sewing thread made with polyester filament as the core and other fibers wrapped around it, often wound into a pagoda shape.

In the metallurgical industry, core-spun thread is made by wrapping alloy powder in steel strips, used in ladle refining of steel. It is used to deoxidize and desulfurize molten steel through a thread feeding method, and to solve technical problems in continuous casting.
