Calcium Silicon Barium is a highly effective additive used in steel making and cast iron production, primarily composed of silicon, barium, and calcium.

Appearance: Silver-gray lumps, granules, or powder resembling small pebbles or metal fragments.

Composition: Primarily silicon (Si) combined with barium (Ba) and calcium (Ca). Common grades include Si50Ba15Ca10 (approximately 50% silicon, 15% barium, 10% calcium).

Applications: In steel making, it functions as a deoxidizer or desulfurizer; in cast iron production, it serves as a inoculant or modifier.

1. Role in Steelmaking

Deoxidation and Purification of Molten Steel:

Silicon, barium, and calcium all possess strong deoxidizing capabilities. They react with oxygen in molten steel to form oxides such as silicon dioxide and calcium oxide, effectively reducing oxygen content in the steel, minimizing oxide inclusions, and enhancing the purity of the molten steel. Simultaneously, barium reduces calcium's vapor pressure, increasing calcium solubility in molten steel and minimizing oxidation losses. This enables calcium to perform its deoxidizing and purifying functions more effectively.

Desulfurization and Dephosphorization:

Calcium and barium in silicon-barium-calcium react with sulfur and phosphorus in molten steel to form sulfides and phosphates.
