Oxygen absorbers, also known as oxygen desiccant or oxygen absorber, are additives that absorb oxygen and slow down the oxidation of food. They are a new product being used in food preservation. They are a group of chemical mixtures that readily react with free or dissolved oxygen. When packaged in a breathable and strong sealed paper bag, similar to a desiccant bag, and sealed together with the food in a food bag, they remove residual oxygen from the air, preventing food from discoloring, spoiling, and becoming rancid due to oxidation. They also inhibit the growth of mold, aerobic bacteria, and grain pests.

Oxygen absorbers are not only used to maintain food quality but also for the preservation and rust prevention of grains, feed, pharmaceuticals, clothing, furs, and precision instruments.
