Calcium-silicon cored wire is mainly composed of metallic elements such as silicon and calcium, along with a coating material, and is a key material in steel smelting. It is produced by encasing a calcium-silicon alloy within a steel or aluminum strip using a specific process to form a core wire structure.

Calcium-silicon wire and calcium-silicon alloy are like noodles and flour-the former is the processed finished product, while the latter is the basic raw material. Calcium-silicon wire is a linear composite material made by encasing calcium-silicon alloy powder within a metal sheath; its diameter is typically 5-13 mm, and it is flexible like a metal cable. Calcium-silicon alloy, on the other hand, is a blocky or granular intermediate metal alloy with a silvery-gray metallic luster in cross-section; it is hard but brittle.
