Product Description

Rare earth magnesium ferrosilicon alloy is a casting additive composed of ferrosilicon as the matrix, combined with magnesium and rare earth elements, and supplemented with calcium and other elements. Its primary function is to promote the spheroidal precipitation of graphite in molten iron, significantly enhancing the strength and toughness of ductile iron.

Core Composition

Matrix and Major Components

Silicon (Si) content is 40–50%, with iron (Fe) making up the remainder, forming the alloy's framework and improving fluidity.

Core Spheroidizing Elements

Magnesium (Mg) content is 4–8% (common grades include 3–8% and 5–8%, etc.).

Rare Earths and Auxiliary Elements

Rare earths (RE, primarily cerium (Ce) and lanthanum (La)) account for 1–3% and are used to neutralize anti-spheroidizing impurities such as lead and bismuth. Calcium (Ca) accounts for 1–3% and aids in deoxidation and desulfurization, stabilizes the reaction, and reduces spatter.

Physical Form

Dense, gray-black alloy lumps; common particle sizes are 5–25 mm and 5–30 mm, with custom sizes available upon request.

Standards

GB/T 4138-2004.

Core Uses and Applications

Core Functions:

Converts flake graphite in gray cast iron into spheroidal graphite, increasing tensile strength by more than 50% and impact toughness by 10–20 times. It also deoxidizes, desulfurizes, purifies molten iron, and inhibits spheroidization decay.

Application Areas:

1. Automotive and Transportation: Critical structural components such as crankshafts, wheel hubs, brake discs, and axle housings, which require high toughness and fatigue strength.

2. Wind Power and Energy: Wind turbine hubs, bases, and nuclear power cast iron components, addressing section effects in thick, large cross-sections and ensuring uniform internal spheroidization.

3. Municipal and Piping: Ductile iron pipes, manhole covers, and valves, offering corrosion and wear resistance with high cost-effectiveness.

4. Heavy Machinery: Machine tool beds, hydraulic components, and construction machinery housings, balancing strength with vibration damping.
