Product Introduction
Silicon manganese alloy is an alloy composed of manganese, silicon, iron, and small amounts of carbon and other elements. It is a widely used ferro alloy product with substantial production volume.
Core Advantages
High-Efficiency Deoxidation
Both silicon and manganese possess exceptional deoxidation capabilities. The silicon-manganese alloy produced by combining them achieves significantly superior deoxidation results compared to using manganese or silicon alone.
Stable Composition
Our products undergo rigorous raw material screening and are manufactured in closed electric furnaces with full process monitoring. We precisely control manganese, silicon, and impurity levels, ensuring minimal composition variation to meet your application requirements.
Versatile Applications
Serves as a composite deoxidizer and desulfurizer in steel production, functions as an alloying additive to enhance steel properties, and acts as raw material for manufacturing low-carbon manganese iron and metallic manganese.
Customized Solutions
We offer tailored products and packaging in various grades and specifications to meet diverse production needs.
Environmentally Friendly
Utilizing energy-efficient smelting processes with integrated waste gas and slag recovery systems, we reduce energy consumption per unit and comply with national environmental standards.
Uses of Silicon Manganese
1. Steel making
- Deoxidizer: Residual oxygen in molten steel degrades material properties. Silicon and manganese in silicon manganese exhibit strong affinity for oxygen. When added to molten steel, they react preferentially with oxygen to form oxides that are expelled as slag.
- Desulfurizer: Manganese combines with sulfur in molten steel to form manganese sulfide. This compound has a low melting point and dissolves readily in slag, enabling its removal. This process reduces sulfur's detrimental effects on steel and prevents hot brittleness defects.
- Alloying Agent: The manganese and silicon in silicomanganese can be incorporated into molten steel as alloying elements to enhance steel properties. Manganese improves strength, hardness, wear resistance, and hardenability. Silicon increases elastic limit, yield strength, and oxidation resistance, making it commonly used in producing specialty steels like high-strength structural steel, wear-resistant steel, and electrical steel.
2. Foundry Industry
Silico manganese can be added to cast iron as a inoculant or modifier to refine the grain structure, improving casting properties and mechanical performance. Incorporating silicomanganese alloy reduces defects like shrinkage cavities and cracks in castings, enhancing casting quality. It is commonly used in producing ductile iron and gray iron castings.
3. As a Reducing Agent
Silico manganese is employed in the production of medium- and low-carbon ferro manganese and in the electrothermal silicon process for manufacturing metallic manganese. It acts as a reducing agent in chemical reactions, facilitating the extraction of elements like metallic manganese.
